We worked on a bilingual program to mark in December the 40th anniversary of the martyrdom of two Maryknoll sisters from the United States who are buried in Chalatenango, El Salvador.
Maryknoll Sisters Ita Ford and Maura Clarke served in the rural communities of Chalatenango, where they are remembered for their love and service. Along with lay Markyknoll-trained missionary Jean Donovan and Ursuline Sister Dorothy Kazel, they were killed Dec. 2, 1980. They became part of the more 75,000 victims of the country's civil war. The Diocese of Chalatenango now recognizes December 2 as the day of the martyrs of Chalatenango. We will livestream a Mass in their honor from Chalatenango, a blessing of their graves and a program to remember their legacy. Below, you will find a video of the bishop of Chalatenango at the graves of the sister who are buried in the cemetery there. We have subtitled it in English.
