We may be socially distant, but our hearts are close to those who need us in El Salvador.
In addition to dealing with the COVID pandemic, the rural communities in Chalatenango suffered in 2020 a loss of crops in the aftermath of Tropical Storm Amanda in late May. In mid-July, El Salvador's Ministry of Agriculture announced the presence of devouring locusts, which further threaten the remaining crops. The diocese has been providing some shelter and food to the populations affected by these events but the threat of hunger looms.
The United Nations World Food Program estimated that 336,300 people in urban and rural areas in El Salvador in 2020 will face severe hunger as a result of the pandemic and natural events. Please consider a donation so we can help them.
